Personal Work:
I like to imagine alternative origins for our Earthly holidays and traditions. As if they were established in another world and somehow made their way here, now buried deep in our memories.
For this painting, I wanted to reimagine why we decorate Christmas trees with lights and ornaments. (while still paying proper homage to Yule & winter solstice traditions)
This takes place in a forest of giant fir trees that accumulate the light of stars and moons over all the dark winter nights. Then, on the night of the solstice while the tress are bursting with light, this horned creature travels there to gather and store the light of winter in its antlers, carrying it forward into the night, perpetuating the cycle of light.
